MySQL

MySQL is a part of this Guide for several reasons.

First, YaBB will be adding support for MySQL in an upcoming version.  I’m going to try to clarify exactly how much infrastructure you need to make that happen.  So things like “Is phpMyAdmin the only tool you need??” will be addressed, along with handy utilities (mine or those of others) and general MySQL relevant to these types of projects.

Second, my Human Rights Portal Project is built around a MySQL research database.  There are lots of  silent gotcha’s out there, I’ll let my ‘ugggh’ moments save you from the same outcome.

Third, MySQL is the default database for WordPress (of which I am also very fond).   So I’ll be looking at things that will help your WordPress install be more stable, or help you understand how that puppy works.  WOOF!

Besides all that: I AM a database designer, right? hehehe

Our first offerings will be the most important advice I can give for Database users, developers or admins - Backup is your best friend! (NOT your beloved poochie OR kitty)

- and (when debugged) we will serve up ‘JonB’s Daily Backup for Windows script for MySQL’. A command-line batch file that creates dated MySQL archives.
